ReplyDeleteGM Varuzhan Akobian has some outstanding lactures on You Tube. Great for class players. He is one of the best lecturers I have seen.
ReplyDeleteI attended a lecture by GM Akobian once. It was excellent!
ReplyDeleteAlso, please note that the best game prize for the master/expert section is now known as the Bill Williams Fighting Chess Award
ReplyDeleteA fitting tribute to an excellent veteran of the 64 Squares and a true gentleman !!
ReplyDeleteI'll probably be there, but I cannot confirm quite yet.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone took any photos last night, please send to Allen Becker, so we can add them to the blog post. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHere is an article I wrote for the online blog for the Skokie Patch. If you like it (or if you don't) please leave a comment on the Patch's website so that they can see that there really is an active chess community.

Chris, nice article!
ReplyDeleteFor informational purposes, players can play up a section except for the closed master/expert section. For example, if you are rated 1400 you can play in the U2000 section; and if you are rated 900, you can play in the U1500. The master/expert section is the only one that is closed.
ReplyDeleteJoel Benjamin visited Skokie, IL today. Here is the write up I did... http://skokie.patch.com/groups/skokie-chess-news/p/four-time-us-chess-champ-visits-skokie
ReplyDeleteI was joking with him that he should come play in the Summer Challenge.
So, is he ??
ReplyDeleteHello everyone!
ReplyDeleteI hope many chess femmes will come out to play in the Summer Challenge II. I will eagerly be following the action and reporting results as they are available. Goddesschess is also once again sponsoring a $50 best game prize in the Open, and maybe a chess dude will win it! Let it not be said we don't spread the love, darlings :)
Somehow I doubt it, but it was a thrill just to be able to ask...
ReplyDeleteEarly predictions:
ReplyDeleteClosed: Hendrickson
U2000: Shi
U1500: A. Huang
U1000: Gopal
If one is driving north on I-94 to get to the tournament, due to I-94 being closed at Rawson Avenue this weekend, please exit the freeway at Ryan Road (go east one block to 13th Street), take 13th Street and continue north on 13th Street until you reach the hotel. If you see College Avenue, you have gone past the hotel by about 1 block. Thanks.
