Since this is a member-only event (the simul), please try to let us know in advance if you plan to play a board in the simul, as the event is limited to about 40 boards. Thanks.

Alex Yermolinsky has also written an excellent book "The Road to Chess Improvement." You may want to get it and he will autograph it for you!

Please let me know if you are intested in private lessons with Alex: he will be available on Friday and on Monday.

Lecture theme will be on GM Nakamura's accomplishments. Alex can email the file (probably in chessbase format) afterwards to anyone who wants it, just let me him know your email.

Thanks,
Alex

I know Bill Williams won his game - anyone else win or draw?

I think Tom Fogec kept track. I believe J. Becker, R. Grochowski, A. Becker, P. Joachim, and about four others drew their games.

GM Yermolinsky gave an excellent lecture. He has a very warm personality, and it's amazing he had so much energy after an all-day drive from his home in South Dakota!

I enjoyed the lecture as well. Too bad my position in the simul was probably lost after move 3 :)

GM Yermolimsky played a simul last night at the Southwest Chess Club against 28 players. The only player to defeat the GM was NM Bill Williams. Draws were achieved by John Becker, Allen Becker, Robin Grochowski, Peter Joachim, Daniel Munoz, Jeff Pokorski and Jim Coons. The simul was preceeded by an excellent lecture by GM Yermolinsky, who drove all day from South Dakota to be with us. Thanks to all the players who came and did their best against the GM.

I'd like to echo the other comments which have been left here. GM Yermolinsky's lecture was lucid, entertaining, and delivered with warmth and enthusiasm. Playing in a simul after a day's long drive from South Dakota--I've done this myself, less the simul--is no small thing. I appreciate Alex's willingness to make time to stop by our club.

I think it is great that GM Yermolinsky was willing to do this lecture and exhibition under these circumstances. It is wonderful for the club and especially the kids. Also, those that were able to hold Alex to a draw will have a memory to treasure and a nice story to share with their grandchildren. I wish I could have been there. It is surprising that there were as many draws, but I guess fatigue must have been an issue after such a long day of driving. Thanks to everyone that took part and helped to represent Wisconsin chess.
