It is with great sadness that I must inform you that Joe Crothers, President of the Southwest Chess Club, has passed away. Joe collapsed Sunday evening while playing chess at the Southwest Chess Club pavilion at Polish Fest and died later at the hospital. He was a wise and valued leader of our club and will be greatly missed. Arrangements are still pending, but likely to appear in tomorow's Journal Sentinel. Tom Fogec/Southwest Chess Club

ive known Joe for many years. He was a good friend who loved chess. He would always share his bag of candy with everyone.I had talked to him at the club last thursday and three days later he is gone.I guess God needed a new chess player.
He was a nice chess player, I played with him many times; He always brought a bag of candy, I ate many. He is a nice man and true chess lover!
Say it ain't so Joe, Say it wasn't your time to go.
Friendly, open, a pleasure to talk to. He will be missed.
Please accept the condolences of the Waukesha Chess Club on the death of your President, Joe Crothers. Those of us in our club who knew and associated with Joe remember him as an elegant, courteous, conscientious, devotee of chess. We share your loss.
