I am looking forward to playing in the Wisconsin State Championship again this year. This is always a nice tournament. I particularly like the time control and the fact that it is a 6-round tournament. I hope all Wisconsinites come out and support the Wisconsin State Championships. See everybody in Wausau!

The hotels restaurant looks kind of expensive. Anybody know if there are other food places close.

Congratulations to DAVID JIN, our 2011 WI State Champion!

Anonymous said...

Mike N - Nice audition for hosting the US Open. Gee I can't understand why your fellow USCF board members might be a bit uneasy with WI hosting it.

50 players... sad. Can't get the top players to attend the state championship - more playing at other state championships. Don't get mentioned on the USCF website for states having state championships... shows you got the PR side well in hand.

Gotta love the decision to have it in Wausau.

Well done WCA.

Robin said...

Congratulations David Jin on winning the 2011 Wisconsin State Championship!!

Anonymous said...

Congrats to Sasha for his strong IL Open play. Finishing with 2 draws against GMs - impressive!

Anonymous said...

These higher rated Wisconsin chess players can attend other events year round. The Wisconsin State Championship is the one tournament all Wisconsin chess players should be attending.

JB said...

So why hold the tournament 3 1/2 hours away from 99% of the higher rated players??

Anonymous said...

WCA expected this turnout... they actually predicted it - open prize fund was based on 25; reserve based on 21. So they were probably pleased.

Other states make it their marque event... WCA does not. Unfortunately

congratulations david jin on winning the wisconsin state championship. i'm sure his mom is delighted ahem oh fyi jeremy kane won the state championship a few years back with only 20 players in the draw and i didn't see anyone complain (though admittedly they probably should have). also i'd like to congratulate kenosha's matthew waller for beating michael chiang in the chicago class last month just before chiang became NY state champion. it was also nice of mr santarius and mr betaneli to play players of their caliber by entering the manhatten open. although they didn't threaten to win they played ok. wisconsin's got talent and it seems there is room for all classes of players to play here and elsewhere just as i suspected

Anonymous said...

oh i just found out that mr betaneli beat GM maurice ashley in the first round of that manhatten open tournament.. . i think i'd rather see him do that then win the wisconsin state championship so congratulations to wisconsin for spreading their talent pool out far and wide
