Did anyone notice Awonder beat GM Larry Kaufman Saturday in the Washington International

Awonder Liang has just set a new record by being the youngest player to defeat a GM. Here is the email from his Dad:

Dear Friends,

I am very happy to report to you that Awonder has just createde another small piece of history in chess for America. He had defeated GM Lawrence Kaufman in the prestigious Washington International chess tournament in round 3 today, Sunday, July 29, 2012. Such, Awonder has become the record holder for the youngest chess player in the United States to have beaten a Grand Master in a tournament game of chess.

The new record Awonder has just established is 9 years 3 months and 20 days. The previous record was established by now super GM and world number 8th chess player Fabiano Caruana on September 28, 2002. Caruana's record was 10 years one month and 29 days. Awonder has broken Caruana's record by 10 months and 9 days.

Awonder could not have done this without your help and encouragement,. We thank you very much!

Best regards,
Will Liang, From Washington DC

Awonder is actually the youngest player to beat a grandmaster in a tournament game. An Indian, Hetul Shah, previously held the record at 9 years and 6 months.

David Howell holds the record for beating a GM in a blitz game at 8 years.

Jerry got the trophy on tiebreaks.

Somewhat forgotten in the talk about Troy, Jerry and AWonder is the fact that Robin won his first round game in the Green Bay Open. Congratulations Robin!

Robin said...

Is there some significance of me winning my first round game at the GBO that I am unaware of? Please enlighten me. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

The significance is simply that prior to playing Robin in the Green Bay Open, Robin's first round opponent had never lost in an USCF tournament game.

My coder is trying to convince me to move to
.net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because
of the expenses. But he's tryiong none the less. I've been using WordPress on numerous websites for about a year and am concerned about switching
to another platform. I have heard excellent things about
blogengine.net. Is there a way I can import all my wordpress content into it?
Any help would be really appreciated!
