We will have a prize fund of around $250 for this tournament, with prizes in different class categories, along with 1st and 2nd in each section. If for some reason we do not have enough players to start a reserve section, we will have some extra lower class categories.
Hi Robin - playing this event, might be a couple of min late this Thurs, but do include me, ok? Was this event 5 rds last year - somehow that's stuck in my head... see you Thursday. (No chess on Wed, reminder...)
John: I will enter you. It might have been five last year, but we are doing four this year. It is just how the schedule worked out this year. See you on Thursday.
what are the prizes in open compared ro reserve?
That will only be determined after we see how many players enter each section and what the rating breakdowns are. We will post the prizes after the 1st round.
We welcome all questions; however, we ask you to identify yourself and not post anonymously. Thanks.
Reminder: If you leave us a message regarding arriving late, not coming for a round, etc., via text, phone or blog, if you do not receive a response from us, then assume we did not receive your message. Thanks.

Hey Robin - I was given a bye last week as well, I was hoping to get a game in tonight. Is that typical to get two byes in a row?
-Matt
Matt: This is a forced bye tonight, which is normally given to the lowest rated player with the lowest score if there is an odd number. Last week you indicated you could not make it, so you were given a 1/2-point bye. The two are completely different. But remember pairings may change again, so if you plan on not showing up please let us know. Thanks.
Hey Robin - my understanding was last week was a forced bye, which I elected to take from home to save the drive, but maybe that was interpreted as a voluntary bye? I only planned to not show due to the pairings showing me with a bye. Is there a better way to handle that?
Thanks,
Matt
Matt: It is difficult to control due to us getting changes to the pairings between 6:00 and 6:30 a lot of times. If someone has a forced bye, and then someone calls in that they are not coming, then there is no longer a forced bye and everyone is paired. We cannot give two players a forced bye. In that case we are evenly paired, and since you indicated you were not coming, then you would get the ½-point bye and the player you were set to play would get the forced bye. It is easier to explain in person than on the blog. I hope this explains things a little bit.
If there is a odd number of players can I enter and play tonight? Thanks Adam Ninneman
Right now there is an odd number. However, players tend to start calling me around 6:00 and letting us know they cannot come. So you just have to take your chances and come to the club and see.
I got a message saying BJ was not going to play
Okay; thanks.
