I will be there. This was the first tournament I entered when I started playing again earlier this year.
The Northeastern is ALWAYS a good tournament !!!
Their Friday night Fish Fry is the best in the country!
The fish fry is great at the hotel. I have had it numerous times.
I'll be signing up very soon for this event!
I'm going to try to make it up there early Friday afternoon...
Let us all come out to the first WI event of 2012!
Last year was quite good for WI players:
--A.Parker and A.Velikanov became masters
--A.Jing, D.Sachs, B.Harder, and T.Schneider became experts
--E.Santarius scored a double IM norm
Anything I missed?
world champion, uscf expert and FM Awonder Liang!
My bad, but I knew there was something big missing! Also, Awonder broke 2100 in 2011!
Now that Dallas isn't going to the playoffs I am officially going to be at this tournament...
and swcc club champion new expert Jerry Zhou!
Woah, I never said that...
no Jerry, not just that you were part of the good year for Wisconsin chess
Sad to say but I'll not be able to make it this year!
I have heard that the pre-entries now number 64. However, I do not have a list yet. I will post if if I receive one. See everybody in Neenah.
Sorry i will miss this tnmt. Love the Northeastern! Have to play in a soccer tnmt. in Las Vegas instead. Oh well...good luck to all!
They are now up to 81 pre-entries.
Hey,Robin,can you post entries? Thanks!
I have not received any pre-entries by name. I have only received numbers.
Hello Everyone!
I did not make it to this tournament but I did make a video and hope you all enjoy it. Either check out my blog at www.benzochess.blogspot.com or

Once again Mike Selig put on a high class event.
Good job by Mike, Dennis, and Andrew directing.
See everyone there next year!
Congratulations to Betaneli for winning this event.
Congrats to Betaneli for beating amateurs!
Hey Gansta, so when's the last time you beat Alex???
Never said Alex was an amateur...only those he played.
That wasn't the question.
Shouldn't it be Gangsta instead of Gansta?
No... Gansta is a made up name...Gangsta is actually a word
No JB, never played Betaneli but I've beaten many great players: Raymond H.,Nolan H.,David J., Aaron J., Awonder L., Thomas U., John V., Williams W., Jerry Z.
Woah that's one hell of a list!
Very impressive...
That's right JB... have you drawn half of the people I've beaten??
A partial list of those I have beaten,(and at their high ratings, not when they were still a child rated 1500), some more than once and many draws against same opponents.
J. Manion
R. Levit
A. Betaneli
E. Santarius (albeit in the WI Quick championships)
G. Knutson
H. Meifert
J. Cooper
J. Breider
E. Allen
A. Jing
M. LaBudde
C. Thompson
draw vs. D. Penkalski(and wins in non-rated games)
etc. etc.
also a draw with Black against Emory Tate
and simul win against GM Bisguier and simul draw against GM Yermolinsky
..... is that enough for you?
oh yeah, also Williams back around '86 or so...
There is no comparison... to put it simply, J. Becker is part of Wisconsin chess history. As for Gangta, apparently he is proud of beating amateurs. :-) A.Jing is described as both "amateur" and a "great player" in his posts.
John, your list of victims is impressive indeed! With tongue in cheek, I will point out that you beat me when I was an expert high schooler. :-) Your Northeastern win in the 90's when you took down both Roman and Greg on the last day still remains one of the most amazing results!
Yes Alex that is correct. I hope you will note that I was merely defending the slight towards you of the original comment that you only beat amateurs. I hasten to add that I should have told him that you can only play who you are paired against, it's not your fault that there wasn't stronger competition. Also, just in jest, you might want to add that we have also had a number of hard-fought draws over the years, including as recently as the 2010 State Championship. True, I haven't won against you recently but you know it will always be an interesting game!
regards, John
p.s. Thanks for the kind words Alex, gracious as always! Thanks also to you Anonymous; people forget that there was alot of good chess being played around here for a long time before the current crop of "wunderkinder".
John, there is no doubt you are one of the most uncomfortable opponents for me with a 50% out of 6 games. And I suspect if shoot penalty kicks, I will be in minus!
Ha ha! that's a good one! LMAO and best wishes to you!
I mean...you haven't proved any good since you can't draw any I've listed...the past is the past, the present is present.
I'm pretty sure I can still hold my own against anyone in Wisconsin. I don't play very often and certainly have studied less in my lifetime than most class B players. I have always just played for fun...and yes, I realize I don't play as imaginatively as I used to, but that's ok, it's not really a great priority of mine. I certainly don't have anything to prove anymore. I just ENJOY playing the game. Try it sometime...
P.S. and there isn't anyone on that list that I cannot beat on a good day. They might beat me too, but that's why you play the game!
Gansta, Aaron J. on your list and A.Jing on JB's is one and the same... and he has results against Betaneli and Santarius who are currently at the top of Wisconsin
So who is this Gansta anyway?
On a good day eh? I can beat anyone on a good day!!
Very easy to say when one is anonymous! C'mon, let everyone know who you are so we can all have a good laugh!
there is no player who won rated games against EVERYONE on Gasta's list; not in winsonsin at any rate and it's very unlikely to be an out of state player
It figures.... just a troll. I should have known better. :)
End of the Gansta!! :D
